November 19, 1966 Schedule
On Saturday Night, November 19, 1966 on KCRA Channel 3 at 11:30PM, Bob Wilkins showed a double feature of "Return Of The Fly"(1959) and "Invasion Of The Saucer Men"(1957). "Return Of The Fly" was an alright sequel to the classic "The Fly". It was apparently lower budget as while it was widescreen(2.35:1), it was in Black & White not Technicolor and this time The Fly's Head on the human body is about 5 times the size of the original. Vincent Price reprises the same role from the original. The second feature was "Invasion Of The Saucer Men", a classic 50's sci-fi movie about teens tangling with bug eyed aliens. It was remade by Larry Buchanan a decade later in a awful movie called "The Eye Creatures".
Hey FP Jr. Just discovered your blog. EXCELLENT. I've been wanting to find a place like this for old N. Cal zombies like us. I had Sac and you covered Stockton. The good old days. Do you remember the "Toy Box" stores? Great place to get those Aurora monster kits. Look forward to more reading and posting. Bob Wilikins, Cap'n Mitch , Harry Martin and Hank Renner RULE!
ReplyDeleteThe inimitable Mr. Bob Wilkins... I'm honored... Big fan of "Creature Features", here -- tuned-in virtually every week back in the 70s... kind of a "weekly event" in my circle in those days... a veritable "ritual", you might even say...
ReplyDeleteI was wondering, do you happen to remember attending a symphonic performance of the music of the movie score composer John Williams (along with an attendant laser light show) at the Marin Civic Center Auditorium in San Rafael, Marin County CA in -- I believe it was --1979?
I could've sworn that I saw you there during the intermission...
No... seriously... I've always wondered if it was you whom I saw that evening.
I publish a civic affairs blog in San Francisco. Recently I covered the story of the Save Mart grocery chain that is buying Albertsons Stores. I included a photo of a store I thought was the correct chain, but I was wrong. Bob is the only person who caught the mistake and was kind enough to let me know. Thanks, Bob. I appreciate the courtesy.
